Day 01 |
Kalpitiya peninsula |
We will be starting the day with a visit to Kalpitiya. The Kalpitiya peninsula is 48 km long and 6-8 km wide while it is studded with fine sandy beaches which make you yearn for a beach holiday. In addition to the Kalpitiya peninsular the 14 islands around it are encompassed in the Kalpitiya tourist development project which was envisaged in year 2008. Kalpitiya that affords the opportunity to view large pods of Dolphins often numbers in running to hundreds. It is becoming a celebrated location in Sri Lanka for the lovers of spinner Dolphins. This remote city is also famous for its presence of Spem Whales and an occasional blue Whale alone is a world class attraction of maritime wild life. Bar Reef, the largest coral reef (307 square km) in Sri Lanka, which can be reached by an hour's boat trip from Kalpitiya, serves as the ideal sea for keen scuba divers and snorkelers. The beautiful reef, exceedingly rich in bio-diversity, is home to an incredible variety of tropical fish as well as offering sightings of manta rays, reef sharks and the occasional sea turtle. You can also take a boat ride up to the lagoon and canoe trips down the river are a pleasant way of exploring the coast line. Alankuda Beach at Kalpitiya is also a place where you can have a lot of fun. |

Day 02 |
Anuradhapura - first kingdom of Sri Lanka |
The next day, We will be leaving for Anuradhapura, the ancient city of Sri Lanka. It is the capital city of the first kingdom of Sri Lanka which was built with a time span of 03rd century and the 08 th century. The reservoirs, canals, and irrigation channels which were built during these times convey the advanced technology of the ancient Aryans which is still a mystery to the modern scientist. The city is now a world heritage under the UNESCO and it was the center of Theravada Buddhism for many centuries. The Rajarata kings' city is dotted with magnificent stupas and picturesque lakes which has an irresistible charm on the visitor. You can also see the world famous Samadhi Buddha statue and also the Sandakadapahana (A stone carpet completely carved out of rock) a masterpiece of ancient Sri Lankan craftsmen. Then we proceed to Habarana where we will be spending the night. |

Day 03 |
Sigiriya and Dambulla |
The Lion Rock. It is an ancient palace of a Sinhala King, located in the Central Matale district. The name refers to a site of historical and archaeological significance that is dominated by a massive column of rock nearly 200 meters (660 ft) in height. According to ancient chronicles, King Kashyapa selected this place as his capital and built the palace on the top of the rock and decorated its sides with colourful frescoes. A gate way was also built in the form of an enormous lion. The name of this place derive from this structure - Singhagiri - the LION ROCK, which was abandoned after the king's death. Today it is a UNESCO listed world heritage site. It will be Dambulla after Sigiriya - It is the largest and the best preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. The rock towers 160 meters over the surrounding plains. There are over 80 documented caves in the surroundings. Major attractions are spread over 5 caves which contain statues and paintings. The main paintings and statues are related to the Lord Buddha's life. We will proceed to Kandy and retire for the night in this beautiful city. |

Day 04 |
Kandy and Nuwara Eliya |
Kandy is a picturesquely located the most beautiful city in the Island. Regarded as Sri Lanka's cultural center and the final kingdom, Kandy is the home for the unique Sri Lankan dancing style. You can also pay a visit to the Dalada Maligawa; the golden roofed temple which homes the tooth relic of the Buddha. The Peradeniya botanical gardens is another beautiful location known for its' bio-diversity. Kandy is also an ideal shopping location for gems, jewellery and traditional handcrafts. After touring around the city, we will proceed towards Nuwara Eliya. We will go through the Ramboda pass which has beautiful sceneries. Nuwara Eliya, is a beautiful hill country town formerly built by the British Planters and beautiful breathtaking sceneries laid down on hills that are 6187 feet above sea levels. The tea carpeted hills and high country vegetation is decorated with cascading water falls. After visiting the Ramboda waterfall which is 329 ft. high the tour goes on to the Hakgala gardens which is famous for its collection of roses and fernery. By the evening you can enjoy walking around the city park and the lake. The city overlooks the tallest mountain in Sri Lanka - Pidurutalagala. You will be spending the night at Nuwara Eliya enjoying its scenic beauty and the temperate weather. |

Day 5 |
Kitulgala - Adventure |
Today it will be the adventurous tour to Kitulgala. We will start early in the morning. Kitulgala is a small town in the west zone of Sri Lanka and in the west zone forest which gets monsoons every year and is one of the wettest places in the country. The academy award winning - Bridge on the river Kwai was filmed on the Kelani river near Kitulgala. The river can be crossed by walking across the shallows and crossing the deep channel in a dug - out canoe, which is stabilized with a outrigger. Inside the jungles of Kitulgala there are plenty of camping opportunities which can be coupled with white water rafting, bird watching, jungle walks, river bathing and many other activities. Visiting pre-historic caves, bathing in the river, trekking to waterfalls, adventure jumps and slides in natural ponds, river expeditions, rain forest walks and trails, flat water rafting, waterfall abseiling, mountain biking etc. are other adventure activities. Sri Lanka's most recently discovered bird the Serendib Scop owl was heard calling in these surroundings. We will be returning to Colombo after experiencing these adventures. |
After spending a day filled joy and adventure we will start our journey back to Colombo.
